The Richardson aged care opens its doors

Final works are now complete on an extensive renovation that’s transformed West Perth landmark The Richardson into one of Australia’s most exclusive aged care destinations.

The Richardson is now offering tours and preparing to welcome its first residents.

The Richardson promises a new standard in luxury care for Perth. Following eight months of extensive renovation works, the property now offers seven different styles of rooms and suites across eight floors, complete with luxurious amenities and 24-hour care.

While internal works to transform The Richardson have been extensive, it will ultimately retain the luxury hotel ambience that esteemed British architect Sir Terry Farrell intended when he designed the building in 2005.

Oryx Communities Managing Director Nita Peploe said she was delighted with the transformation of The Richardson and the building’s new design, referencing its heritage as a six-star hotel but with all the amenities required for residents’ comfort, safety and mobility.

“We have been through each and every room, repainting and refitting the bathrooms and kitchenettes. We’ve retained the hotel styling throughout but ensured that there is easy access into showers and toilets and that the bedding offers our residents ultimate comfort,” Ms Peploe said.

“For past visitors to The Richardson Hotel, it will seem very familiar. We’ve retained the beautiful foyer and dining areas, which will be open to residents and their families. This includes the bar, the 5-star restaurant and the café-style dining room.

“Some of the bigger changes, however, are in the outdoor living spaces. We’ve removed a carpark, replacing it with a larger outdoor entertaining area that sits adjacent to the pool. This new space will feature BBQs, gardens and outdoor sitting areas that will be perfect for entertaining during the warmer months.”
