2005 – A Boutique Beginning
The Richardson Hotel and Spa opens in West Perth. Designed by renowned British architect Sir Terry Farrell, the five-star boutique hotel quickly earned a reputation for elegance and exclusivity, welcoming international guests and well-known personalities.
2017 – A New Chapter
After more than a decade as a luxury hotel, The Richardson closes its doors. Oryx Communities acquires the building with a vision to transform it into an aged care residence, preserving the building’s distinctive design while adapting it for its new purpose.
2017–2018 – Transformation in Action
An extensive eight-month renovation begins. While much of the building’s boutique character is preserved, spaces are redesigned for safety, accessibility, and community living. Key changes included:
- Suites reconfigured for aged care needs
- Addition of garden and outdoor areas
- Retention of iconic hotel features such as the foyer, restaurant, café, and pool area
